Actuality of Wushu in Macao and countermeasure of its development in future

The Chinese Wushu, with its long history in Macao, has become one of the competition events at International Games in which Macao takes part. How to find a suitable way to develop the Chinese Wushu in Macao, as an amateur sport, to a level that approaches the domestic level, has become an important task since the handover of Macao to its motherland. Based on the research and the author’s investigations on Wushu in Macao, this paper analyses various factors that influence its development, and discusses its development direction, adding suggestions and providing a scientific basis for Wushu organisations and the administration department.

These suggestions include: 1. do the coordination and management job well, also care about the development of the Wushu organizations; 2. strengthen the propagation of Wushu’s characteristics and functions and help the people possess the correct view; 3. bring enthusiasm of the Wushu organizations into play, and do the training job to the young people well; 4. strengthen the training job to the coaches and judges, and establish an examination system; 5. give the preferential policy to the representative team, and strengthen its training and management job; 6. encourage the development of the Wushu organizations by adding teams competitions and, at the same time, take local competitions seriously to plan the competition events better; 7. help the Education and Youth Department of Macao on the organization of Wushu competition for the students, in order to attract more young athletes; 8. raise funds in every way and enlarge cooperation and intercommunication with the motherland.

The author believes that the research of this paper has its own value for the further development of Chinese Wushu in the world.
